Nokia N900 hardware failures

Nokia N900 USB port failures

If you like Linux and you like smartphones you surely know about Nokia's N900. The Linux powered phone has drawn a lot of attention and gadget lust since it's release last year. There have been a lot of great reviews about it. I've been wanting one myself.

However, something may be rotten in Finland. They are growing reports that the USB port used for charging, tethering and data are breaking off making the port unusable. Even more alarming are continued reports that Nokia is rejecting warranty claims.

Some claim that it will take some time for Nokia to investigate. However these reports have been growing since December. With this air of uncertainty my advice, if you are thinking of purchasing an N900, is to wait. There is no point in spending $500 on a device that might fail in a week. Wait to see if Nokia will stand behind this product. I hope they do otherwise I might be looking at an Android phone instead.
